Tagliabue The Exceptional Classic Paternal Family and the Deep, Productive Maternal Family of Hambletonian Champion Tagliabue!
HARRISBURG, Pa./John Bradley -- Over 50 years of top-class trotting tradition is behind Tagliabue (Super Bowl-Double Coverage-Speedy Crown) as he gets ready to stand his seventh season as a stallion at Fashion Farms, New Hope, PA.

Tagliabue is a true son of Super Bowl, standing 16.3 hands and with a long-barreled body; it is almost intimidating due to his perfect conformation.

Regarding Tagliabue's bloodlines, he is a perfectly balanced stallion genetically. He represents the classic 'Nick' -- Super Bowl on a Speedy Crown mare.

From a pedigree standpoint, Tagliabue combines some of the top trotting blood seen over the last half-century in the sport. He is bred 2x4 to Star's Pride 3x5x6 to Worthy Boy, 3x5x5 to Rodney, 4x4x5x5x5 to Volomite and 4x4 to Speedster. The combining of Super Bowl and Speedy Crown blood gives him the genes of two of the most powerful trotting sires the sport has ever seen.

As an added bonus, Tagliabue's maternal family ranks among the best in harness racing and has been producing world champions on a regular basis for almost five decades. Not too many families can maintain this type of performance, at the sport's highest levels, over such a sustained period of time.

The fifth dam of Tagliabue, Record Express (by Phonograph) was a foal of 1946 and went on to produce two world champions as a broodmare and started the ball rolling for this great maternal family known simply as the family of Belle. In modern terms, this really should be known as the family of Record Express since the first 2:00 performer in the family was her world-champion daughter Expresson 3,T1:58, who took her record in 1959.

Tagliabue's dam is the good, multiple stakes-winning Speedy Crown-mare Double Coverage 3,1:57 ($320,961), who is also the dam of two other exceptional full brothers to Tagliabue. UConn Don 3,1:55 won over $ 1.6 million in a combined U.S. and European career and, while in Italy, set a world record of 1:56.1h on a half mile.

Another full brother is Herschel Walker 3,1:56.1, who is also an international stakes-winner with earnings over $600,000. Thus, Double Coverage has already produced three world-class trotters from her first four foals.

The Nevele Pride mare Beat The Clock 2:04f is the second dam of Tagliabue and, in addition to Double Coverage, she is the dam of Bob Griese 4,T1 :57.2 (Florida Pro), Minnesota Viking 4,T 1:57.3 (Speedy Crown), Play Action 3,1:59.1 (Noble Victory) and Two Minute Drill 4,1:59 (Speedy Crown). Her daughter Hail Mary (Noble Victory) is the dam of the major Swedish star Kosar 3,1:56 ($748,771) by Speedy Somolli.

Exciting Speed is Tagliabue's third dam and she nicked very well with Nevele Pride to have produced the Hambletonian-winner and outstanding sire Bonefish 3,1:58.1 ($309,750) and world champion and Three-Year-Old Trotter of the Year Panty Raid 3,1:57 ($473,932) who is the grandam of Hambletonian-winner Giant Victory 3,1:54.4 ($1,252,243) by Super Bowl.

Exciting Speed is also the dam of such other Nevele Pride performers as Kingfish Q1:58 ($90,313), Cheetah 3,1:58.2 (a good sire in Germany), Imagery 3,1:58.4 ($218,246) and King Cobra 3,1:59f.

Going back another generation in this great maternal family we find world champion Expresson 3,T1:58 ($79,485) as Tagliabue's fourth dam. She is the dam of Lola's Express 1:58.3 ($461,087) and Express Pride 1:59.9 (Finland) and several daughters who have produced successful trotters, including the grandam of world-champion Gentle Stroke 1:56.3f ($473,122) and Noble Move 3,T1:57.2 ($302,050).

From a pedigree standpoint Tagliabue is set up to produce fine trotters. Given his Super Bowl-Speedy Crown cross, along with the fact that his maternal family seems to be able to adapt to the times and produce performers who trot a couple of seconds faster in each generation, Tagliabue would seem to have a legitimate chance at success.

trophy "I never saw a horse who loved to race as much as Tagliabue. He would always give you a game effort. He was one of the few horses I have trained where I never had to worry about his attitude. He is just an all-around class horse with a tremendous desire to win."
-- Jim Campbell

"Since the Danish breeders cannot afford to send their mares to the U.S.A. to breed to Tagliabue, I will be glad to be their ambassador by importing his frozen semen."
-- Christian Junge
Danish Breeders Assoc.

"Tagliabue is one of the gamest horses I have ever driven. He covered the ground very easy; a real powerful moving horse. If you could just capture the will to win inside of him, you'd have a champion every time. He could race in front or behind, it didn't matter."
-- John Campbell Hambletonian

"It is an honor for us in the Breeders Association, to get the right to import and handle the frozen semen of Tagliabue in Sweden; he is one of the few American stallions that was approved in my country"
-- Tomas Thell
Swedish Breeders Association

"Given his statuesque size so reminiscent of Super Bowl, his fierce competitive spirit, his temperament and stakes triumphs including the Hambletonian and Zweig Memorial, and his superb pedigree, it would be no surprise if Tagliabue turns out to be a stallion in the classic mold of his great sire."
-- Stanley Bergstein

"He is the only son of Super Bowl that has the appearance, the gait and the heart of his sire"
-- Vernon Dancer

"Any serious breeder can't afford not to breed to Tagliabue. He may be the real 'Nick' that we American breeders need so much."
--Annette Roydon
Malhana Farm

"I was there on Hambletonian day. I will always remember Tagliabue. His courage and stamina are second to none, what a race!!!"
-- Bruno Branchini
