Seattle native Martin Leith turned professional
in 1994. While Martin has always loved playing golf and competing, his number
one passion is teaching. From 1994 to 1995, Martin served as an assistant
professional and golf instructor at Glendale Country Club. In 1996 he competed
on the Western States Tour. Later, he taught golf in Tokyo, Japan. In ’97 he
was one of the first 22 PGA apprentices nation wide to complete the PGA of
America’s new golf professional training program and later that May, earned
his "Class A" PGA membership.
Jumping at the opportunity to work near his
home of Queen Anne, Martin joined the inaugural teaching staff at Interbay in
September 1997. A month later, he traveled to Florida to become certified as a
Colbert/Ballard instructor. Martin was captivated by the importance of keeping
instruction easy to follow. He has been named as a regional host professional in
Golf Digest’s national lesson campaigns for the last three years.
In the summer of 1999, Martin was promoted to
Head Golf Professional and Director of Golf at Interbay. Anxious to make his
mark, Martin quickly set out to strengthen Family Golf Centers’ number one
lesson facility by further solidifying the Ballard method throughout the
program. In February 2000, Martin accompanied one of his junior students to
Florida to attend a month-long player’s school with Jimmy Ballard. While in
Florida, Martin engaged in continued studies with Jimmy that reemphasized the
importance of connection throughout the swing and the importance of simplified
presentation of swing techniques for the student. Martin also had the
opportunity to work with Ron Cruikshank, whom Jimmy Ballard regards as "one
of the world’s best mental coaches". Ron showed Martin some intriguing
methods of emotional management by having a better understanding of the power of
your heart (its great stuff!).
Martin is also a very active player in the
Northwest. He's spent a few months on some mini tours, and you can expect to see
him in section majors such as the Washington Open, Oregon Open, and the
Rosauers. He was even a national finalist in the Oldsmobile Scramble. As you can
see he truly loves the game of golf, and is very excited to share his knowledge
of this wonderful game with people of all skill levels.
